Dog Day at the Track Set for Saturday, February 11 at Sam Houston Race Park

​(HOUSTON, TX) - Dog Day at the Track featuring the always popular Wiener Dog Races, returns to Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, February 11. The entertaining event will feature Dachshunds in all shapes and colors racing approximately 30 yards from the starting gate to the finish line between live thoroughbred horse races.  Bring the whole family and your four legged best friends to watch the races from our pet friendly Pavilion and enjoy $1 hot dogs. Post time is 6:00 pm with the $50,000 Houston Turf Stakes and the $50,000 Sam Houston Sprint Cup highlighting the horseracing card.

SIGNIFICANT HANDLE INCREASE NOTED FOR THE HOUSTON RACING FESTIVAL AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK

​(HOUSTON, TX) - It was an exceptional Sunday afternoon of racing on January 29 at Sam Houston Race Park. For the second time in the racetrack's 24-year history, two graded stakes were contested and noted owners, trainers and jockeys shipped in for both the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic and the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf Cup.

Unbridled Mo a Convincing Winner of the Grade 3 $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic at Sam Houston Race Park

It was a superb afternoon of racing at Sam Houston Race Park with exhilarating performances by Unbridled Mo in the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic and another win for trainer Mike Maker in the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf Cup.  It was also a standout day for jockey Jose Ortiz, who posted three stakes wins on the afternoon card.

Five Stakes to be Contested in Sunday Afternoon's Houston Racing Festival

Three undercard stakes complement the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic and Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Turf Cup on Sunday

Sam Houston Race Park will present the Houston Racing Festival with five stakes races on Sunday, January 29. The ten-race card gets underway at a special early post of noon (Central).

The first of the five stakes, the $75,000 Frontier Utilities Turf Sprint, will run as race 6, followed by the $50,000 Space City Stakes, the Grade 3, $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup, the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic and the $50,000 Houston Distaff. 

Houston Ladies Classic Nominations and EHV-1 Policy Revision

Nominations have closed for the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic which will be contested on Sunday, January 29. The mile and one-sixteenth stakes was awarded its graded status by the American Graded Stakes Committee in 2016, and remains the richest Thoroughbred race in Texas.

2017 Spring Concert Series Lineup

Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) is pleased to announce the 2017 Spring Concert Series on the Bud Light stage, will take place on most Saturdays and a few Fridays beginning on March 31st through May 19th.  

2017 SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK THOROUGHBRED MEET KICKS OFF FRIDAY, JANUARY 20

Sam Houston Race Park is in final preparations for its 24th live racing season. Friday January 20 is opening night of the Thoroughbred meet and the men and women who serve our country will be entitled to Free Admission for Military (with valid ID).
