Stakes Action Continues Sunday with the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic, $200,000 Connally Turf Cup and Four Undercard Features
HOUSTON, TX - Sam Houston Race Park will salute accredited Texas-breds Saturday night with four Texas Champions stakes. The four featured events will be run as the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth races of the card, which gets underway at 6:00 pm (CT).

Camel and Ostrich Racing Returns on Friday and Saturday
Sam Houston Race Park is in final preparations for its 2018 live racing season. Friday January 19 is opening night of the Thoroughbred meet which continues through March 17. A blustery winter storm, which forced school closings on Tuesday, will be gone by Thursday, with a promising weather forecast for this weekend. Post time is 7:00 pm on Friday and 6:00 pm (Central) on Saturday. The family-friendly Camel and Ostrich Races will take place both evenings at the northwest Houston racetrack.

Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) will open its 24th Annual Live Racing Season with the kick off of the 2018 Thoroughbred Meet on Friday, January 19th! The meet will once again feature the single, richest thoroughbred racing day in Texas- the Houston Racing Festival, on Sunday, January 28th, 2018 with a post time of 12pm. The Houston Racing Festival will feature the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic (GIII), the $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup (GIII), the $75,000 Frontier Utilities Turf Sprint, the $50,000 Bara Lass Stakes, the $50,000 Groovy Stakes, and the $50,000 Houston Distaff.

Training Hours Commence on Monday, December 18
HOUSTON, TX - Sam Houston Race Park will kick off its 25th live racing season on Friday, January 19. The 32-day Thoroughbred meet continues through March 17.
The barn area opened on December 11 with training hours set to commence on Monday, December 18.
SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK ANNOUNCES 2018 THOROUGHBRED STAKES SCHEDULE
Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) is pleased to announce the scheduled dates for all stakes races during our 2018 Thoroughbred Meet. The 24th racing season is set to begin on January 19th, 2018 and will feature 20 stakes races worth over $1.5 million. The stakes program is highlighted by the Houston Racing Festival on Sunday, January 28th, 2018. This year’s festival will feature six stake races totaling $825,000 in purse money headlined by the Grade 3 Houston Ladies Classic and Grade 3 John B. Connally Turf Cup.
