Live Thoroughbred Horse Racing Returns January 25th, 2019
HOUSTON, TX (August 24th, 2018)— Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) has announced their upcoming Live Racing Calendar for both the Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse Meets to take place in 2019 - marking the beginning of their 25th Anniversary Season. Horse racing returns on Friday, January 25th with the start of the 2019 Thoroughbred Meet which consists of 32 live racing days.

Positive Handle Numbers Noted on Opening Night and for Sam Houston Futurity Trials
The 2018 Sam Houston Race Park Quarter Horse Meet concluded on Saturday, May 12 with ten races and the presentation of the End of the Meet awards. The 20-day live racing season began on March 30 and featured 12 stakes highlighted by the $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G2) on April 28.

Sam Houston Race Park closed out its 2018 Quarter Horse live racing season with an excellent card featuring three stakes and the presentation of the end of meet awards to the leading owner, jockey and trainer.

The final night of the 2018 Sam Houston Race Park Quarter Horse live racing season is Saturday, May 12. The ten-race card will feature three stakes: the $50,000 Sam Houston Classic (G2); the $25,000 Governors’ Cup Marathon and the $15,0000 Texas Twister. The meet’s leading owner, jockey and trainer will also be honored in between races on Saturday evening.

Serendipity Rocks Pulls the Upset in the $191,900 Sam Houston Derby (G3)
It was a glorious evening at Sam Houston Race Park with ideal weather conditions for the richest race of the 2018 Quarter Horse Meeting, the $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G2). Showing even more speed and professionalism than his trial win was fourth-fastest qualifier FM Im A Zatanaz Too who won the final for owner Jose Fabian Hernandez of Georgetown, Texas.

Three stakes will be contested Saturday, April 28th at Sam Houston Race Park. The nine-race program begins at 6:10 pm with the finals of the $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G2), the $191,900 Sam Houston Derby (G3) and the $44,060 Sam Houston Juvenile.
