The January 28 live Thoroughbred program begins at 1:00 pm (CT) with a very promising forecast of clear skies and temperatures in the mid-60’s for the marquee racing event.

HOUSTON, TX- The Houston Racing Festival will take place on Saturday, January 28 with five stakes, highlighted by the Grade 3, $300,000 Houston Ladies Classic. The second graded stakes, the Grade 3$200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup, attracted 12 turf specialists, including 2021 champion Spooky Channel and last year’s winner Another Mystery. Post time for the ten-race program is 1:00 pm (CT).

HOUSTON, TX—Nominations have closed for the Houston Racing Festival at Sam Houston Race Park. The annual event, featuring the Grade 3, $300,000 Houston Ladies Classic and the Grade 3, $200,000 John B. Connally Turf will be contested on Saturday, January 28 with an afternoon post time of 1:00 pm (CT).  

Stelliot's Legacy and Bling Bling Bling Victorious

HOUSTON, TX-  The first two stakes of the 2023 Sam Houston Race Park Thoroughbred season were contested on Saturday afternoon with Stelliot’s Legacy breaking her maiden in the $75,000 Darby’s Daughter and Bling Bling Blingwinning the second stakes of his career in the $75,000 My Dandy. The Texas Thoroughbred Association sponsors the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series (TSSS), a set of races for progeny of nominated Texas-based stallions. The series features three sets of races, each split into two divisions (colts/geldings and fillies) for a purse of $75,000 per division.

HOUSTON, TX-  The first two stakes of the 2023 Sam Houston Race Park Thoroughbred season will take place Saturday, January 7. The $75,000 Darby’s Daughter and $75,000 My Dandy, at 5 ½ furlongs on the main track, are part of the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series (TSSS), a set of races for progeny of nominated Texas-based stallions. The series, run at Sam Houston Race Park and Lone Star Park, honors notable Texas Thoroughbred fillies and colts and geldings.
