Opening Day for the 2023 Thoroughbred Meet is Friday, January 6
HOUSTON, TX- The first two stakes of the 2023 Sam Houston Race Park Thoroughbred season will take place Saturday, January 7. The $75,000 Darby’s Daughter and $75,000 My Dandy, at 5 ½ furlongs on the main track, are part of the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series (TSSS), a set of races for progeny of nominated Texas-based stallions. The series, run at Sam Houston Race Park and Lone Star Park, honors notable Texas Thoroughbred fillies and colts and geldings.

PROMOTIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS SET FOR THE 2023 SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK LIVE RACING SEASON
HOUSTON, TX – Live Thoroughbred racing resumes at Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, January 6 and will continue through April 8. Officials recently announced a transition to afternoon racing each Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm (Central). Holiday Monday racing, also at 1:00 pm, will take place on Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day. Admission will be $5.00 on all live racing days for the upcoming season.

Several familiar names made successful returns to the winner’s circle, including El Tartanero Jess in the Sam Houston 250 Stakes; Dak in the Sam Houston 550Stakes and Just A Perfect Grace winning her first stakes and Lethal White Veil impressing an enthusiastic crowd with her finish in the Sam Houston Starter Stakes.

HOUSTON, TX –Sam Houston Race Park hosted the final of the $130,713 John Deere Juvenile Challenge (G2) and $91,163 Adequan Derby on Thursday, June 16. Trials were run on May 26 to determine the ten qualifiers for both regional qualifying stakes for the 2022 Bank of America Challenge Championships.
