The 2017 American Quarter Horse racing season gets underway with a star-studded cast at Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, March 31.  Opening night will honor the men and women who serve our country with Military Appreciation Night offering FREE admission for Military with valid ID (before 8 pm). 

PARTLY MOCHA NAMED 2017 HORSE OF THE MEET AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK

Partly Mocha, owned by Sarah and Kenneth Ramsey and trained by Mike Maker was named 2017 Horse of the Meet for the 2017 Thoroughbred racing season at Sam Houston Race Park.

HOUSTON, TX – Texas Champions Weekend continued Monday afternoon at Sam Houston Race Park with sunny skies and convincing victories by Rumpole and Bravura, winners of the two Texas Champions Stakes held today at Sam Houston Race Park. Both racesfeatured saluted accredited Texas-breds on the final weekend of the 2017 Thoroughbred racing season.

​HOUSTON, TX – Another rainy evening did not dampen the spirits of Zippit E and Can’t Be Wrong, winners of the two Texas Champions Stakes held this evening at Sam Houston Race Park. Both races featured saluted accredited Texas-breds on the final weekend of the 2017 Thoroughbred racing season.

The End of the Meet Awards Will be Presented on Tuesday, March 14

HOUSTON, TX - Sam Houston Race Park will salute accredited Texas-breds on the four remaining days of the 2017 Thoroughbred racing season. Seven Texas Champions Stakes will be contested, with the $50,000 Bara Lass and $50,000 San Jacinto Stakes set for Friday evening and the $50,000 Yellow Rose Stakes and $50,000 Richard King Stakes to be contested on Saturday, March 11.

IRON FIST DOMINATES IN THE $100,000 MAXXAM GOLD CUP AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK

Three Turf Stakes Also Run on the Maxxam Gold Cup Racing Festival Card

​Tonight’s Maxxam Racing Festival featured four stakes highlighted by the running of the $100,000 Maxxam Gold Cup. A field of ten was assembled for the mile and one-eighth main track event and the winner was Iron Fist, owned by the partnership of Stonestreet Stables LLC and Regis Racing.
