A busy weekend is shaping up at Sam Houston Race Park, beginning on Friday night with trials for the $191,900 Sam Houston Derby (G3) with the final of the $95.800 Sam Houston Maiden Classic and the $20,000 Miss Houston Stakes set for Saturday evening.

Sam Houston Race Park hosted 13 trials for the richest race of the 2018 Quarter Horse Meeting, the $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity (G2).  

Jockey Francisco Calderon Eyes His Third Win in the Sam Houston Futurity

Sam Houston Race Park will host 13 trials for the Sam Houston Futurity on Friday, April 6. It is the richest race of the annual Quarter Horse meet, and second only to the Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park as the state’s most lucrative racing event.

Jockey Francisco Calderon has 11 mounts on the card, which gets underway at 6:00 pm. After the first three days of the Sam Houston Quarter Horse meet, Calderon is on top of the standings with five wins, including a victory in the first stakes of the meet.

Jess Bein the Hero Sets the Fastest Qualifying Time in Trials for the $67,680 Bank of America Texas Challenge Championship

It was an action-packed opening weekend at Sam Houston Race Park for the 2018 Quarter Horse racing season. Southern Temptation won the $20,000 Harris County Stakes, which was the first stakes of the meet and trials were held for both the Bank of America Texas Challenge and Sam Houston Maiden Classic.

Trials for the Sam Houston Maiden Classic Set for Friday Evening

The 2018 American Quarter Horse racing season gets underway at Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, March 30.  The 20-day meet will continue through Saturday, May 12.

 

Opening weekend racing action includes trials for the Sam Houston Maiden Classic on Friday night and the first stakes of the meet, the $20,000 Harris County Stakes set for Saturday evening.
