HOUSTON, TX – Since opening as the first Class 1 racetrack in Texas, Sam Houston Race Park has played a pivotal role in the careers of many accomplished horsemen and women. In 1994, Bret Calhoun was one of the young trainers in the inaugural live racing season.
PROMOTIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS SET FOR THE 2023 SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK LIVE RACING SEASON
HOUSTON, TX – Live Thoroughbred racing resumes at Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, January 6 and will continue through April 8. Officials recently announced a transition to afternoon racing each Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm (Central). Holiday Monday racing, also at 1:00 pm, will take place on Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day. Admission will be $5.00 on all live racing days for the upcoming season.

HOUSTON, TX –Texas-breds closed out the 2022 Quarter Horse season at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, June 18. Several familiar names made successful returns to the winner’s circle, including El Tartanero Jess in the Sam Houston 250 Stakes; Dak in the Sam Houston 550Stakes and Just A Perfect Grace winning her first stakes and Lethal White Veil impressing an enthusiastic crowd with her finish in the Sam Houston Starter Stakes.

HOUSTON, TX – Sam Houston Race Park saluted Texas-bred Quarter Horses and two horsemen who are deeply missed in the racing community. Both Willie Hickman, who had many roles in the Sam Houston racing office and trainer Jesse Yoakum were remembered in named stakes on the closing night of the meet.

HOUSTON, TX –Sam Houston Race Park hosted the final of the $130,713 John Deere Juvenile Challenge (G2) and $91,163 Adequan Derby on Thursday, June 16. Trials were run on May 26 to determine the ten qualifiers for both regional qualifying stakes for the 2022 Bank of America Challenge Championships.

Post time is 6:45 pm (Central) for the ten-race card, which will also include the presentation of the end of the meet awards for leading owner, trainer and jockey.

HOUSTON, TX – The 2022 Sam Houston Race Park Quarter Horse live racing season will wrap up on Saturday, June 18 with a total of eight stakes races to be contested this week. The Thursday, June 16 card, which gets underway at 4:00 pm (Central) will be highlighted by the final of the $130,713 John Deere Juvenile Challenge (G2) and $91,163 Adequan Derby.
